"The home offered holistic person centred holistic care. They educated Mum on what she needed to do to safely care for her baby. They guided and encouraged independence in Mum to help build her confidence in parenting when she did not have positive parental role models. Dumbell House offered a safe space for Mum to experience her feelings and emotions. Dumbell House were great communicators. I feel that they were good at understanding Mums neurodivergence and mental health, the things they didn’t know they were keen to learn and find out. I feel that they were holistic and there was a real want for Mum and Oskar to do well. I think this went far in supporting Mum as she felt that she had good support.

"Although baby’s placement at Dumbell House was very short, my overall experience of the staff team and the environment was extremely positive. Staff were welcoming, calm and highly child centred throughout. They provided patient guidance to baby’s mother around feeding, bottle preparation, winding and nappy changing, stepping in sensitively whenever she needed support. Their approach was warm, non-judgemental and focused on ensuring baby’s immediate safety.

Despite the limited time, staff communicated openly with me and made sure I was fully informed about key events during the stay. When baby’s mother became distressed and said she could not care for him, the team responded with professionalism and reassurance, offering emotional support to her while taking over baby’s care to keep him safe. They remained respectful, balanced and supportive throughout our discussions.

They also completed a body check and recorded several physical concerns in line with safeguarding procedures. The quality of the staff’s recording, clear, factual, and time stamped gave an accurate picture of baby’s needs during the placement.

Overall, even though the placement was brief, Dumbell House provided a safe, structured and well managed environment for baby. The staff team were organised, responsive and worked effectively with me as the social worker. Their professionalism and child focused practice supported informed decision making and ensured that baby’s welfare remained the priority at all times." Placing LA Social Worker
